NOW UPDATED WITH SCHOOL HOLIDAY DATES
FOR 2010-2011 and 2011-2012

THE SCHOOL YEAR in FRANCE
► An academic year calendar to help you plan dates for a holiday or even a business trip to France.
Tourist facilities (hotels, infrastructure, holiday cottages) tend to be more crowded, and sometimes more expensive, during French school holiday periods. Some local services (small shops, local or town bus services) may be  reduced during school holiday periods.
For the Winter holiday season, note that French ski slopes are particularly busy at times when two Zones are on holiday. Out of interest, check also the Belgian school holiday dates indicated below..
Holidays starting on Saturdays do so after the end of classes; but primary schools and middle schools (collèges) no longer have classes on Saturdays, and most lycées now finish on Friday afternoon too.  Most teaching periods start on Monday morning.

  •   For a view of the whole year, check out the 2010 week-planner calendar for France
  •   Note: When holiday periods start on a Saturday after classes, they start on a Friday after classes for all schools that do not operate on Saturdays. Otherwise, all dates are inclusive.
