Agen
(Lot et Garonne)
to Pau (Pyrenees)
Day
13 takes riders from Agen, on the Garonne river, through
the heart of Gascony, and as far as Pau, the capital of the Pyrenees
Atlantiques department. It is a generally flat route across the Gascony
countryside, with its gently rolling hills and fields of corn and
sunflowers. The day's route goes through
the vineyards of the Armagnac, the production area for "Côtes de
Gascogne", the most exported French white wine. Later on in the day,
the route goes through the smaller Madiran wine growing area, famous
for its reds and its unforgettably named Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, a
late-harvested aperitif wine.

From the Garonne to the
Pyrenees
Stage
13, on Friday 12th July 2024, sees the Tour de France
in the historic
region of Gascony.
Gascony is
not a
region, it was never even a clearly-defined territory in old France ;
but the name Gascony has long been
attached to a large area of the southwest of France, stretching from
the river Garonne to the Pyrenees.
